Silence and Stillness

Whenever I take a moment to sit and enjoy the beautiful Temple garden, I'm reminded of an ever-present opportunity: the transformative power of silence and stillness. Silence and stillness are available regardless of what's happening. Embracing these can lead to a deep self-reflection that nurtures my heart and ignites creativity.

In our modern world, anything approaching silence is rare. We are constantly bombarded by external and internal noise that distracts us from experiencing our true selves. Yet, it is in silence that we can find clarity and insight. When I practice silence and stillness, I can naturally create space for inner wisdom to emerge.

In my Zen practice, silence is not the absence of sound but a dynamic presence. It allows me to listen deeply to the whispers of my heart's deepest longing, and through silence, I can connect with the essence of being human.

Stillness is not about being motionless but being fully present in each moment. In contemplative practice, stillness is the dance of awareness that flows effortlessly with the rhythms of life.

When I embrace stillness, I observe thoughts and emotions without attachment, allowing them to pass like clouds in the sky. This stillness is not disengagement but an ability to respond to life with clarity and compassion.

Silence and stillness are fertile grounds for creativity. When I'm quiet and still, I can tap into the boundless inspiration within my heart and mind. My most profound creations emerge from this space.

In contemplative practice, I've learned to embrace the ebb and flow of creativity. I recognize that true artistic expression is not about striving for perfection but honoring the authentic self. By cultivating a practice of silence and stillness anytime and anywhere, in the garden or the Zendo, I can create the conditions for creativity to flourish.
